Dutch Art Exhibition Doha

400 YEARS OF DUTCH MASTERS

Experience the captivating world of Dutch historical, modern and contemporary art as it makes its way to Qatar, offering a unique cultural exchange between two vibrant nations.

We present a curated collection of Dutch masterpieces spanning exactly four centuries (1624–2024), featuring the oldest painting from 1624 and the most recent artwork from 2024.

The exhibition features 11 historic artworks from the Dutch Golden Age, including masterpieces by Rembrandt, Simon Luttichuys, Hercules Sanders, and a unique pendant painted by a pupil of Frans Hals. Among these treasures is a newly rediscovered Piet Mondriaan, created at the age of 24, and an inspiring modern interpretation of his style by René Jacobs, titled “We Are Mondrian”. René Jacobs’ work, crafted with nearly 10,000 plastic dolls, juxtaposes Mondrian’s timeless design with an innovative medium, inviting viewers to ponder collective memory and ownership of cultural symbols. This convergence of historical and contemporary interpretations is amplified by the venue itself—the Mondrian Doha Hotel—creating an extraordinary synergy.

The exhibition also features aweinspiring contemporary pieces, such as Diet Wiegman’s light sculpture, Joop Polder’s serene landscapes, Noah Voûte’s textural abstractions, alongside works by Jeroen Buitenman, Gerti Bierenbroodspot, the Rotterdam based sculptor Anthon Hoornweg, Mirage Photography by Annemarie Voûte and the talented Jeffrey Burger. Furthermore, there are bronze sculptures on display by Chris Tap and Elise Coenen. The multi-talented Isaac Monté has created two crystal vases from his Mineral Series.

“Culture is an important component to connect people. Both locally and regionally. It’s a natural component for bringing people together and discussing ideas”. Sheikha Al-Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani
